Few places can truly call themselves the Kingdom of Happiness and live up to the name. Bhutan is a very special place, in the foothills of the sacred Himalayan Mountains. Its people are proud of their culture and live everyday according to the number one ideal of the country: Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross National Wealth. This trip takes in the lesser travelled east region of the country and then moves to the treasure of the western regions.

  • Admire the high-altitude rhododendron forests and revel at the variety of other wild flowers we'll see on our travels.
  • Journey through the remote and untouched eastern regions of Bhutan - this route from east to west is rarely taken by visitors.
  • Experience life in Bhutan's second largest and most remote town, Trashigang, home to the country's only university
  • Cross four spectacular 10,000 ft plus passes, including the 12,465 ft Thumsing La during our journey west.
  • Walk in one of the little visited high valleys of Ura and Tang, in Bhutan's serene spiritual heartland, Bumthang.
  • Be inspired during visits to some of the kingdom's most holy and revered temples.
  • Marvel at the imposing and dramatic Trongsa Dzong.
  • Relish the high pastures and gorgeous scenery of the Probjika valley.
  • Enjoy the sights and sounds of one of the world's smallest capital cities, Thimpu.
  • Watch out some of Bhutan's unique and beautiful birds along with its botanical treasures.
  • Appreciate meeting Bhutan's greatest attractions - its people.
  • Be moved by the awe inspiring sight of the breathtaking Tiger's Nest Monastery and revel in the sense of achievement at making one of the world's most special short (but steep!) walks.

A warm and bubbly person Janet certainly knows her stuff about international travel.

Well organised and able to problem solve, we found Janet easy to relate to.
